As fall begins, the leaves begin to change colors and fall of the trees and the weather turns a bit crisper. As you enjoy this season, it’s important to keep your smile in mind, especially because the holidays are right around the corner and it’s best to have strong and healthy teeth and gums. To help you take good care of your smile, our dentist, Dr. Shahnam Amini, encourages you to do a couple things.

First, keep up on oral hygiene. This means you need to brush your teeth every morning and night, floss your smile once a day, and rinse your mouth daily. You also need to visit your dentist for your dental cleaning and exam if you’re due for a checkup. These things can help you keep your smile clean, healthy, and strong. As you clean your smile, please remember to use oral hygiene tools that have been approved by the American Dental Association.

Second wear a mouthguard if you play fall sports. Unfortunately, many oral injuries occur on the field, court, or track, which is why it’s best to wear a mouthguard while you’re active. A mouthguard is an appliance that fits over your arch of teeth and protects your smile when hard, forceful objects hit it. This can help you avoid knocked-out, cracked, and broken teeth.
